Mark Your Calendars!!! - AKA - Am I NUTS???

On June 8th I'm going to (hopefully) RUN a 5k! I am officially registered for the Nike Women's Fitness Festival 5K in Sacramento!! http://www.wff.fleetfeetsacramento.com/

I have to admit, I signed up for it thinking I had several months to get ready for this, and once I put it in my calendar I realized I have exactly 6 weeks to get trained!! So far my workout regimen has include lots of walking, some weight training and some yoga. No running. I'm going to have to change this quickly!!

So if anyone is in town and wants to cheer me on come on down!!

Tell Me Where It Hurts - Dr. Nick Trout

Book Description From Publishers Weekly - This is the perfect gift for anyone considering becoming a veterinarian. Trout, a staff surgeon at Boston's Angell Animal Medical Center, has exactly the traits that any pet owner would wish to find in a vet: he's smart, sensitive, experienced, empathic and has an excellent sense of humor. He also happens to be an excellent writer, and his personality suffuses the many stories sifted from recollections of thousands of animal encounters during his 25 years of practice and compressed in this account into one day. Trout shows how the daily life of a veterinarian requires the ability to be a social worker, a psychologist, a grief counselor, mentor, carpenter, plumber, cosmetologist, athletic coach, magician, grim reaper, and occasionally, guardian angel. And in some of the more heart rending stories, such as that of an older widowed man dealing with the potential loss of his shepherd companion, Sage, Trout shows his sensitivity to the fact that in each case, The rewards and strength of the bonds with the animals in their lives proved irresistible, irrepressible, and more than worth the risk. I liked this book fairly well, I'm not sure what I expected and parts of it were pretty good, but his writing style left me confused sometimes, he jumps back and forth from case to case pretty randomly and then back to the original one he was talking about in the chapter. Also don't read it while you are eating! LOL!!

Week 40 weigh in!

I lost 1.4 pounds this week! I had a very good week and I'm now down 48.9 pounds! So close to 50 pounds!! There will be some big celebrating once I hit 50 pounds lost!!

I also don't think I say this enough, but my husband is such a HUGE support for me, he keeps me going, keeps my attitude up when I'm feeling down, cooks and cleans so I have time for other things like the gym and taking care of myself and is just there for me when ever I need him. I probably could have done this without him, but it would have been way harder and I wouldn't want to!! Love you hon!!!

The Year of Living Biblically - A. J. Jacobs

Description From Publishers Weekly - What would it require for a person to live all the commandments of the Bible for an entire year? That is the question that animates this hilarious, quixotic, thought-provoking memoir from Jacobs (The Know-It-All). He didn't just keep the Bible's better-known moral laws (being honest, tithing to charity and trying to curb his lust), but also the obscure and unfathomable ones: not mixing wool with linen in his clothing; calling the days of the week by their ordinal numbers to avoid voicing the names of pagan gods; trying his hand at a 10-string harp; growing a ZZ Top beard; eating crickets; and paying the babysitter in cash at the end of each work day. (He considered some rules, such as killing magicians, too legally questionable to uphold.) In his attempts at living the Bible to the letter, Jacobs hits the road in highly entertaining fashion to meet other literalists, including Samaritans in Israel, snake handlers in Appalachia, Amish in Lancaster County, Pa., and biblical creationists in Kentucky. Throughout his journey, Jacobs comes across as a generous and thoughtful (and, yes, slightly neurotic) participant observer, lacing his story with absurdly funny cultural commentary as well as nuanced insights into the impossible task of biblical literalism.

It took me forever to read this book, not because I didn't like the book, but because life kept getting in the way - I persevered though! I really liked his book, I had read his first book "The Know It All" where he set out to read the entire Enclyclopedia Britanica and this one didn't disappoint either. He has a way of telling about ordinary things and making them fascinating!!

Cokecakes!!

So I had to try the Diet soda and cake mix recipe that has been discussed at several WW meetings - We used Diet Cherry Coke and Betty Crocker Super Moist Devils Food Cake mix. We made cupcakes that are only two points each and they are super good!! Logan has dubbed them Cokecakes!! You can use any cake mix and any flavor diet soda so the possibilities are endless!!

My new do!

I thought it was time for another change - kind of a extreme makeover "hair edition". I told the lady roughly what I wanted, and she told me why that wouldn't work and told me what I should do and asked me what I didn't like about my current hair style and she came up with this!

I love it!!! - she thinned it out a LOT, got rid of the long layers on the side that were constanly in my face and driving me crazy and gave me some bangs! To show you how long it has been that I have had a style that needed anything besides a scrunchie - She told me in the mornings all, I have to do is use a round brush and blow dry it, I had to call home to see if we owned a blow dryer!
